Jeff Simpler

  • West Lake Hills City Hall 4010 Bee Caves Road West Lake Hills, TX, 78746 United States (map)

Jeff Simpler is a proud—if occasionally infrequent—member of the Rotary Club of Austin Westlake. A career technologist, Jeff has spent more than 35 years working in information technology and security, FinTech, software, and training, both through his own businesses and for organizations ranging from community banks to NASA (yes, that NASA).

Over the course of his career, Jeff has delivered hundreds of presentations to thousands of people, many of them focused on one recurring theme: how technology can go wrong, usually at the worst possible moment. He currently serves as IT Strategic Manager at Third Coast Bank in Houston, where he concerns himself daily with cyber risk, operational resilience, and convincing executives that “just clicking the link” is rarely a good idea.

A parent of two Westlake graduates, Jeff spent many years volunteering in parent organizations—especially band and athletics—and has logged more hours on school and charter buses than he would wish on anyone, including his enemies. (He likes to think he doesn’t have many of those.)

Jeff will be talking about modern hacks and security vulnerabilities that affect all of us, along with practical, common‑sense steps you can take to reduce the odds that you become the next cautionary tale.
